Post Study Work Permit

After completing their studies in Ireland, international students can apply for the Third Level Graduate Programme, which allows them to stay in Ireland for up to 24 months to find employment related to their field of study.

Eligibility: Students must have completed a degree from an Irish accredited institution and hold a valid Visa Stamp 2. The duration of the post-study work permit varies based on the level of education:

  • Level 7 (Ordinary Bachelor’s Degree): 6 months
  • Level 8 (Honors Bachelor’s Degree/Honors Diploma): 12 months
  • Level 9 (PG Diploma/Master’s Degree): Initially 12 months, with an option for a further 12-month extension
  • Level 10 (Doctoral Degree/Higher Doctorate): Initially 12 months, with an option for a further 12-month extension.

Application Process: Students can apply for a non-renewable extension to find suitable employment. Later, they can apply for a Critical Skills Employment Permit or General Employment Permit1.

PR Option After Study Work Permit

After gaining work experience through the post-study work visa, international students can pursue permanent residency in Ireland through several pathways:

Five-Year Continuous Stay Requirement:

To qualify for permanent residency, individuals must have lived in Ireland continuously for at least 5 years with a valid work authorization, such as an employment permit. The time spent on a student visa does not count towards this requirement.

Critical Skills Employment Permit:

Holders of a Critical Skills Employment Permit can apply for PR after residing in Ireland for at least 2 years
