After completing their studies in the Netherlands, international students can apply for the Orientation Year Residence Permit, also known as the zoekjaar or post-study work visa. This permit allows them to stay in the Netherlands for up to 1 year to find employment or start a business.

Eligibility: Students must have completed a degree from an accredited Dutch university or hold a degree from a top 200 ranked university worldwide. They can apply for this permit within 3 years of completing their studies.

Application Process: The application must be submitted before the student visa expires, typically within 3 months of its end date. The application fee is approximately €210.

Work Flexibility: During the orientation year, students can work without restrictions and do not need a separate work permit. They can also work as self-employed individuals

PR Option After Study Work Permit

After gaining work experience through the post-study work visa, international students can pursue permanent residency in the Netherlands through several pathways:

Highly Skilled Migrant Scheme:

Once students secure a job, they can apply for a residence permit as a highly skilled migrant. This requires a job offer from a recognized employer and meeting specific salary thresholds. After 5 years of residence, they can apply for permanent residency.

Self-Employed or Entrepreneur Pathway:

Students who start their own businesses can apply for a residence permit as self-employed individuals. This requires demonstrating financial stability and a viable business plan. After 5 years of residence, they can apply for permanent residency.
