Post Study Work Permit

After completing their studies in the UK, international students can apply for the Graduate Route Visa (also known as the post-study work visa). This visa allows them to stay and work in the UK for a specified period.

Eligibility: Students must have completed a degree at a recognized UK institution and hold a valid Tier 4 or Student Visa at the time of application. They must apply from within the UK before their student visa expires.

Duration: The visa allows students to stay in the UK for up to 2 years after completing their degree, or 3 years if they have completed a PhD.

Work Flexibility: This visa does not require employer sponsorship, allowing students to work in most jobs or be self-employed.

PR Option After Study Work Permit

After gaining work experience through the Graduate Route Visa, international students can pursue permanent residency in the UK through several pathways:

Skilled Worker Visa: After gaining relevant work experience, students can apply for a Skilled Worker Visa if they have a job offer from a UK employer. This visa is a pathway to permanent residency8.

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR): To qualify for ILR, which is equivalent to permanent residency, students typically need to live and work in the UK for 5 years on a valid visa, such as a Skilled Worker Visa. They must meet specific residency and work requirements.

General Requirements for PR: To apply for PR, individuals must demonstrate a strong connection to the UK, meet financial thresholds (e.g., earning at least £38,700 per year as of now), and pass the “Life in the UK” test.
